Chasing the sunrise

-- Brian

I was invited by a friend to shoot the sunrise over Auckland's Sky Tower as seen from Hobsonville Marina. It was still dark when we arrived and it's the first time for both of us to visit the place. We don't even know where to position ourselves for the sunrise. We decided to head to the boath ramp at the right end of road since we can't find the entrace into the marina.

It wasn't exactly what we envisioned for the shot as we want an image with boats lining up at both sides, instead we got boats on one side and just a patch of land on the other side.

I got lucky and captured these guys getting ready to head out:

70mm | f/8.0 | ISO 100 | 1/80 sec

In this image, it was actually just a single bird flying right in front of my camera. All I did was take a number of shots and stack them together in Photoshop:

135mm | f/11 | ISO 50 | 1/320 sec

While we're walking back to the car park, we noticed that we parked our car near the entrance of the marina, we just didn't see it earlier as it was still quite dark. Because of this, I decided to go back the following day and finally got the images that I wanted.

103mm | f/8.0 | ISO 100 | 1.3 sec

85mm | f/8.0 | ISO 50 | 1/250 sec
